Junior Professional Officer (JPO)* programs are gateway programs sponsored by member states that enable young professionals to work for international organizations. In order for American citizens to apply to these programs, the U.S. Government must have a bilateral agreement in place with a specific organization’s program, and funding to support JPO assignments.
The U.S. government participates in JPO programs with the international organizations listed below. In some cases, there may be different entities within the federal government supporting JPO assignments with an individual organization and those are listed out separately below with links to the webpages where vacancies are advertised. Visit these websites to learn more about the specific details of each program and current vacancies. As these programs are dependent on funding, positions are advertised on an ad-hoc basis; visit this website frequently to check for future postings.
*JPO programs may also be referred to as Associate Expert or Associate Professional Officer programs.
